Risk and Safety

Risk management refers to a systematic approach to establishing a safe, minimal risk environment for all involved participants involved in service-learning: students, faculty, supervisors, transporters, community agency representatives, and others.  - SL clearinghouse

• Risk Management:  SL staff worked with the offices of Risk Management and General Council to document acceptable risk management guidelines.
• Safety Tips for Students:  Tips for students when working in the community
• Safety Talking Points:  Safety procedures and suggestions for faculty and agencies to share with students
• SL Field Trip Form:  Suggested form to be used if students might have additional risk, e.g. working outdoors, using tools, knocking door to door
• Incident Report Process:  In the event of an incident, review this procedure and form

A word about contracts

Some agencies require formal legal contracts (not to be confused with Student/Agency Learning Contracts). The Service-Learning Director collaborated with Boise State Office of General Counsel to develop a boilerplate contract that may be used. Contract Kara Brascia at 426-2380 to discuss details. The contract requires dean-level signature.
